Normally, I don’t report on Apps here, as we could do a blog for that. However, this one I just couldn’t resist, but it is sadly still a concept.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, and I am told that we have many, then you know that I am nuts over all things augmented reality. This particular one can be used a famous movie locations.

You can watch the video to see it in action, and it looks simple to use. Find the spot where a movie was filmed, like the Westminster Bridge in 28 Days Later, and you will see the scene played out.

As you can see in the video, the locations are in the UK. I hope this App will eventually come with locations for the United States.

Personally, I love going to places were movies were shot. I visited the town of Preston, Idaho, just so I could see the final shot of Napoleon Dynamite. It would have been very cool to use an App like this there.

In fact, I can see this App being used for movie-related tours. Forks, Washington could be used for a Twilight-based tour, and I’m pretty sure that L.A. and New York City have plenty of places to use this App.

With rumors of a new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on the horizon, artist Dave Rapoza shows us a more graphic interpretation of some of the characters from the classic franchise.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or simply Ninja Turtles) are a fictional team of four teenage anthropomorphic turtles, who were trained by their anthropomorphic rat sensei in the art of ninjutsu and named after four Renaissance artists. From their home in the storm sewers of New York City, they battle petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs, and alien invaders, all while remaining isolated from society at large. The characters initially appeared in comic books before being licensed for toys, cartoons, video games, films, and other merchandise.During the peak of its popularity in the late 1980s through early 1990s, the franchise gained considerable worldwide success and fame.

Hands on with the Snakebyte MiniMote and Premium Remote XL+ Controllers

Gadgets,

I got a chance to try out some of Snakebyte’s gaming accessories last week, and I have to admit, I was pretty impressed.

The first was the Wii MiniMote Controller, which is the red Wii controller on the left. You might have noticed how small it is, and you are right. It is actually twenty –five percent smaller than the Wiimote. I found that it fits quite comfortably in my hand for a lighter gaming experience.

As for the Premium Remote XL+, it looks like a regular Wiimote. It does have that Wii Motion Plus Sensor built-in, and there are some other features that I will talk about after the jump.

You should probably know that the Wii MiniMote takes AAA batteries instead of the usual AA. That is probably something that should be put on the box. The Premium Remote XL+ takes AA batteries, but you have to unscrew the back to put them in. At first I thought this was a terrible feature, and I noticed that it comes with rechargeable batteries as well as a USB charger. So you don’t have change the batteries, but connect it via USB to the Wii for power.

You should be able to get these terrific video game accessories at the Snakebyte website now. The Premium Remote XL+ is on sale now for $27.99 and the Minimote is about $23.99.

Hands on with the Jabra Freeway Hand’s Free Virtual Assistant

On a recent trip to San Francisco, I misplaced by Bluetooth headset. Fortunately, I had something Bluetooth waiting for me when I got back, with the Jabra FREEWAY Speakerphone.

We have reported on the initial release of the FREEWAY back in March, and even though it has a clip for the car visor, it can also work on the desk as well. I found that it instantly recognized my Bluetooth-enabled smartphone within mere seconds of being powered on.

Having the three speakers with virtual surround sound was also handy, not to mention it announcing the name of the incoming caller. The ability to have it answered by me saying “Answer” is another added bonus.

Other features included the 14 hours of talk time and 40 days of standby. It is also good for A2DP streaming for playing of music, podcasts, and GPS directions. Another great feature is that it can link up with two Bluetooth devices at the same time.

According to the official web site, the Jabra Freeway is exclusively available at Amazon.com. The price is about $124.94, which might seem like a high price to some, but it is a good price for a Bluetooth speaker of this quality in my opinion. In short, I recommend the product.

Swoop the Owl keeps your iPhone safe while you are sleeping

This particular iPhone accessory is Swoop the Owl, and it reminds me a lot of the Woogie.

Although the Woogie plush device is designed to be used to protect the iDevice from small children, it would appear that Swoop the Owl protects the iDevice from adults. You know how must people sleep with their phones these days for the sake of the alarm or music, so why not have an extra level of protection?

Not only that, the user can still use their iDevice, but any calls should probably be used with a headset. It looks like it has a place for the headphones in case you want to listen to some tunes before you sleep.

I think that I am going to see a lot of stuffed animals/iPhone accessories like Swoop the Owl, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are based on franchises rather than original characters. For example, I can see this being used on an Ewok or a Mogwai, but those are more eighties cuddly characters. I’m not certain what would be used today, Justin Bieber?

Anyway, this is another Kickstarter project, which means the designers are looking for money. However, you can pre-order it for about $25 per Swoop the Owl.

NEC announces MultiSync EX231Wp display

1 Point2 Points3 Points4 Points5 Points6 Points7 Points8 Points9 Points10 Points (No Ratings Yet)

NEC is back with a spanking new monitor for the masses, where it will be known as the NEC MultiSync EX231Wp. This is a 23″ model, where it will also have a sibling already in ready form via the 23″ TN panel MultiSync EX231W. Being sleek in design, this desktop monitor will deliver a premium-grade, performance-driven PVA panel which paves the way for an increased viewing angle, sharp contrast ratio and ease in transporting between different locations.

In fact, some might even tout this to be the ideal solution for multiple monitor setups, as the MultiSync EX231Wp was specifically designed for financial and corporate environments, business users on-the-go, small-scale digital signage, small-to-medium-sized business client meetings and presentations in mind.

Boasting of a true blue minimalist design, the new MultiSync EX231Wp features an ultra-thin bezel width of 14.6mm, a depth of 14.2mm, while tipping the scales at 9.3 pounds with its stand. As for its LED backlighting technology, that would enable the MultiSync EX231Wp to sip a mere 27W of juice, directly making it one of the most power-efficient desktops in its size category.

Apart from that, there is also the quick-release button that allows one to remove its stand, while letting you achieve a simple setup process with the photo-frame stand as an optional accessory. Other hardware specifications concerning the PVA panel include full high-definition resolution support, a high contrast ratio (3000:1 typical, 25,000:1 dynamic), excellent viewing angles (178° vertical, 178° horizontal) and minimized color shift which results in crisp text, bright colors and pure imagery.

Not only that, the MultiSync EX231Wp is smart enough to know whether there is a human in front of it thanks to the included human sensor, where it will detect user activity in front of the monitor while reducing its power up to 94% with inactivity in the process. You will, of course, be able to adjust the inactivity length and sensor settings according to your whim and fancy.

The MultiSync EX231Wp will interestingly enough, ship with a 3-year limited parts and labor warranty, where it will hit the streets sometime this July for $319.

Amongst his many unusual balloon sculptures, which he has termed Airigami, is a series of famous pieces of fine art recreated with latex balloons. Floating Pool Archery Game

Want to have some fun this summer when you’re throwing a BBQ by the poolside? If that’s the case, get your body all buffed up and slap on enough sunscreen – so that you can have a field time trying to hit the target, scoring with your archery partner after that if possible. After all, when two good looking people get together, hit it off with the right kind of activity and have plenty of booze to feel relaxed, why not?

The Floating Pool Archery Game definitely on target where family fun is concerned, letting you make an attempt at being the Robin Hood of the pool, as you attempt to beat your opponents with your skills. Of course, there are always different factors to take into consideration such as the strength and direction of the blowing wind in addition to the way water moves, affecting just how the target board floats.

$39.95 to improve your hand-eye coordination is still more affordable compared to purchasing a new Nintendo 3DS, no?
